2002/2003
My biggest project in c-base without any doubts is the tile mosaic, that by now has found its final place in the passage from mainhall to the seminar room. Originally, it was intended as a wall decoration for the ladies' room, since this was (in contrast to the men's room) very bleakly and not spaceship-like at all. I wanted to change that situation and thought of a picture showing parts of a space ship as well as a big piece of space with planets and stars, that I wanted to create out of broken tiles. Against the initial resistance of some of the crew members (but also with some inteceders in my back) I began to work. I gathered together people and materials and started.
The mosaic is made out of three big plates, of which one is a former door and the two others were especially glued together by myself from old wooden plates. Next, these plates were mounted to the wall and the picture, that I had already composed beforehand, was roughly sketched onto the totally 2 x 3m big area.
The tiles have partially been purchased, partially they are shred tiles from garbage containers of different tile stores. The tiles that were intact where smashed and the pieces stuck to the plates with standard tile glue, until nothing from the underground was visible any more.
A big "thank you" I'd like to say to the following people: Daniel Görtz (for driving the tiles), Macro (who also helped with the supply of the materials - not always on legal ways, though ;-), Meister Sven (who supported me in glueing the wooden plates together) and of course Judith Jahnke, who tiled big parts of the picture together with me, and the other female c-base members, who contributed to the creation of the picture. Also, a "thank you" to all those people who motivated me for the project and who, even when I had my doubts about the project, encouraged me to continue. Many thanks to all of you!
